In many years of working as the CIO of a large organization, teaching an MBA course at the UK Open University, and working as a business consultant, trainer, and coach, I have studied several hundred organizations’ organizational life. Their owners and top managers have described their organizations and the problems in their assignments. Thirteen years.
I noticed an interesting thing. In about 30% of cases, the standard methods described in the MBA course work perfectly. In about 30% of cases, they do not make any difference at all. And in about 30% of cases, they can be seriously detrimental.
An organization is more than just a corporate culture, structure, and management system. An organization is a special structure that its owners have created for very specific, often not fully conscious, purposes. And it pursues these goals against all the odds. In short, as is easy to understand, the organization is also about its people. It should be seen as a whole system. In this workshop, we will talk about a systemic approach to solving organizational problems.
